Somewhere along the way, “self care” started to look like spa days, solo dates, beauty routines, and shopping. Those can be lovely, but when that’s all we see, self care feels expensive, time-consuming, and out of reach. We end up feeling guilty for not “doing enough” for ourselves.

The Essence of Self Care
In reality, real self care is often quiet and simple. It’s not about how it looks; it’s about how it feels in your body and mind.
Simple Acts of Self Care
Self care can be:
A glass of water you actually taste.
Sitting for a minute, noticing the temperature, letting your body feel that you’re paying attention.
Quietly eating your meals.
Putting your phone away for a few minutes, taking a breath before the first bite, really tasting your food.
Scribbling on a piece of paper.
Writing one honest sentence or messy doodles. Not to be pretty—just to let your feelings land somewhere.
A small, gentle walk.
Around the block, down the stairs, or to the corner. No steps to track, no performance—just feeling your feet on the ground.
Saying “I’m tired” without apologizing.
Choosing rest over expectations is also self care.
Start Small
You don’t need a perfect routine. Start with one small thing that feels kind and repeatable—one mindful glass of water, a few phone-free bites, a two-minute walk.

Embracing the Grounding Moments
Self care doesn’t have to be fancy or materialistic. Most of the time, it’s these simple, grounding moments where you quietly remind yourself:
“I matter.”
